The legislation of the Russian Federation allows two citizenships. But if you need to renounce Russian citizenship for any reason, you will have to submit an application and some other documents to the appropriate authority. The procedure for deciding on the termination of citizenship can take up to one year.
Necessary
- - identity document;
- - documents confirming your place of residence (if necessary);
- - a copy of the certificate of change of surname, name or patronymic;
- - documents confirming the existence and compliance with the conditions for termination of citizenship;
- - three photographs 3x4 cm;
- - a receipt for payment of the state duty.
Instructions
Step 1
Draw up an application for termination of citizenship for submission to the Department of Internal Affairs at the place of residence (diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation abroad). The application can be written by hand or typed on a computer or on a typewriter, it is drawn up in Russian. When filling out an application, the use of abbreviations and corrections is not allowed.
Step 2
Submit all required documents to the Citizenship Authority. If you live outside of Russia, the application is submitted to the Russian embassy or consulate. If the document is submitted in a foreign language, translate it into Russian. Copies of all documents, as well as the accuracy of the translation, are certified in accordance with Russian legislation on notaries.
Step 3
Wait until the relevant official checks all the documents submitted, the compliance of your signature on the original and a copy of the application, makes a note of the fact of verification on the application, signs and certifies it with the official seal. In addition, your photograph will be stamped with a stamp. Then an opinion will be drawn up in the prescribed form, which will indicate information about you and your relatives, the availability and correctness of the documents, as well as their compliance with the grounds for termination of citizenship.
Step 4
Obtain a certificate from the authorized body confirming the acceptance of the application for consideration and payment of the state fee. Wait for a decision on your application.
