The Moscow metro is the heart and rhythm of the city. A place where meetings are made, guided tours and films are made. It is not without reason that the architecture and design of the Moscow subway are recognized all over the world. And it is not at all surprising that people want to preserve this beauty not only in memory, but also in photos and videos.
Open to everyone
A natural question arises: are photography and video filming allowed in the Moscow metro and the MCC? If you went down in the metro as a tourist as part of an organized group, and want to record what you saw with an amateur camcorder, a camera or a camera on your phone, no one will forbid you to do so. All official travel agencies have an agreement with the Moscow Metro to conduct excursions, which include photo and video filming of the object. But you can only shoot in public places: platforms, crossings, lobbies, carriages. In areas closed to passengers, filming is prohibited, as well as the presence of unauthorized persons.
When filming with an amateur camera in the subway, do not forget about safety. Since the subway is a place of increased danger, law enforcement officers may ask you not to shoot at the moment and in this place. Better not to argue and follow their instructions. Respect the privacy of other passengers. Not everyone likes to be photographed without consent.
Cinema in the subway
But if you want to use the metro sites for a professional photo shoot, film or video shooting, for news and reportage shooting for the media, contact the metro management for written permission. To obtain official permission, you need to send a written application addressed to Viktor Nikolaevich Kozlovsky (head of the Moscow metro). In the letter, describe in detail what exactly you are going to shoot (film, reportage, etc.) and attach the script. Indicate on which subway sites you are going to shoot, and in what time interval. How long is your job. Write down the exact number of participants and the amount of equipment required. If we are talking about a film, it is necessary to indicate the models of the used equipment, as well as provide storyboards. Such an application must be submitted at least one month before the estimated date of filming, and ideally even earlier. You will be given an answer in four days.
But just keep in mind that any commercial filming in the subway and MCC is paid. With a positive answer to your request, you will need to conclude an agreement with the metro administration and pay the invoice. After that, you will receive permission to shoot. Large-scale shooting in the metro is carried out only within a certain time frame and should not interfere with normal traffic.
