Women living and working in Russia are entitled to maternity leave. In this case, the vacation must be paid by the employer. In some cases, funds can be transferred to the expectant mother directly from the Social Security Fund.
Eligibility for maternity
In accordance with the current Russian legislation, a woman has the right to receive maternity benefits, who should be granted maternity leave at her place of work. Maternity leave is divided into several parts. The first part of the leave lasts, as a rule, 140 days and is granted on the basis of presentation of a sick leave issued in an antenatal clinic.
Maternity leave can only be taken by a pregnant woman who, at the time of issuance of a sick leave, continues to work in a public institution or a private company.
If the expectant mother is not an employee, but an individual entrepreneur, then she can also go on maternity leave, but at the same time, the allowance can be transferred to her directly from the Social Insurance Fund. In order to receive all the payments due from the state, a woman entrepreneur who had previously paid all insurance premiums must write to the Social Insurance Fund a statement about the occurrence of an insured event and attach all the necessary documents.
Some time ago, individual entrepreneurs could not receive maternity benefits at their place of work. At the moment, this is becoming possible thanks to the voluntary insurance system.
If the expectant mother at the time of the onset of pregnancy, on which the sick leave is issued, does not work, then she will not be able to receive maternity leave. She is only entitled to a monthly allowance from the state. It should be paid from the moment the baby is born and ends when he is 1, 5 years old.
Child care allowance
After the end of the first part of the maternity leave, parental leave comes, which must also be paid. In this case, the right to receive a monthly allowance can be granted not only to the mother of the baby, but also to the person who will actually take care of the child. If the mother decides to go to work, then working family members have the opportunity to get a vacation at work and sit with the baby. In this case, the employer will be obliged to transfer the allowance on a monthly basis.
Some families decide to send the baby's dad or grandmother on parental leave just because it is more profitable from a financial point of view.
After the baby turns 1, 5 years old, his mother or the person caring for the child has the right to extend the leave until the baby turns 3 years old. Monthly payments in this case will be minimal.
