Following Europe, the Russian Federation is following the path of increasingly stringent laws restricting smoking in places where tobacco smoke can disturb others.
Many adherents of this addiction perceive anti-smoking laws as a restriction of their own freedom, some even speak of "infringement of rights." But if you look at the situation from the point of view of nonsmokers, then it is smokers who limit their right to stay healthy. The logic of anti-tobacco laws is simple: if a person decided to bring himself to lung cancer and other diseases that are threatened by smoking, he has the right to do so, but no one is obliged to get sick and die with him.
After the adoption of the 2014 law, it is easier to say where smoking is allowed than to list all the places where smoking is prohibited.
Smoking Areas
No law prohibits smoking at home. If we are talking about an apartment building, one clarification should be made: you can smoke only in your own apartment, but not on the stairs or in the elevator. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to prove a violation of this prohibition: all the neighbors can do in this case is to call the police or the district police officer, and the police do not always respond to even more serious calls.
You can smoke in your own vehicles, be it a car, yacht or boat.
It is allowed to smoke on the trains on the platforms, but we are talking only about long-distance trains, this does not apply to suburban trains.
Cafes and restaurants may have smoking areas, but they should be located outdoors (for example, on a veranda), there should be a special sign announcing that there is a smoking area, posters about the dangers of tobacco, ashtrays, in the dark artificial lighting must work.
Places where smoking is prohibited
Smoking is prohibited on the territory of all educational institutions - from nurseries to universities, all medical institutions, including not only hospitals and clinics, but also sanatoriums, dispensaries, as well as in government institutions. Smoking is prohibited in cultural and sports facilities.
Smoking is prohibited in all types of public transport, including train lobbies, decks of motor ships. Railway stations, airports, gas stations, and the subway also fall into this category.
It is allowed to smoke outside, but within 15 meters from playgrounds and all establishments listed above, where smoking is prohibited.
The restrictions apply not only to smoking as such, but also to the sale of tobacco products. Advertising of tobacco and cigarettes is completely prohibited, cigarettes should not be on store shelves, it is only allowed to place the catalog as a list without illustrations. The buyer can either ask for such a catalog or study it on their own.
Violation of this law is punishable by a fine of 500 to 3,000 rubles.
