The concept of foreign economic activity in its modern meaning was formed with the beginning of perestroika, the implementation of new economic reforms and the emergence of commercial enterprises independent of the state engaged in foreign economic activity.

Foreign trade managers began to work on ensuring efficient export and import of goods and overseeing all foreign economic operations in such companies. In different companies, this position may be called differently: procurement, procurement and sales manager, customs declarant, import and export manager, logistician - the most commonly used version of the title of this position. Regardless of the name of the position, the person who deals with the delivery of goods to foreign partners in the company is the foreign trade manager.

Duties of the foreign economic activity manager

Enterprises of various types can carry out foreign economic activity: manufacturers of various types of goods, trading companies, importers and exporters. Regardless of the type of activity of the enterprise, foreign economic activity management has a number of specific functions that any competent specialist involved in the company's foreign economic activity should understand.

Marketing. It includes work on monitoring the legislative norms of the states parties to the transaction, analyzing prices, conducting negotiations, searching for buyers, suppliers, manufacturers, planning advertising campaigns and drawing up analytical reports on the import and export of the group of goods of interest.

Planning and logistics. Analysis of warehouse balances, placing orders, determining the terms of delivery, concluding contracts with forwarding companies and supplying them with all the necessary documents, as well as planning profitability taking into account all risks.

Customs. Working with customs includes: development and subsequent implementation of customs and payment schemes, control over the transfer of funds, conclusion of contracts with customs brokers, organization of temporary storage.

In addition, the foreign economic activity manager is engaged in the execution of all permits, mutual settlements and control over the fulfillment of the terms of all concluded contracts.

Requirements for applying for a job

The main requirements for a candidate for the position of a foreign economic activity manager are:

- compulsory higher education, economic or technical;

- fluency in English and, in some cases, in other required languages;

- good orientation in customs and legislative procedures of different states;

- computer skills at the level of an advanced user, sociability, initiative.
