Ten years ago, finding a high-paying job for those who are 50 years old or more was a problem: most employers demanded that a candidate for a particular position be no more than 35-40. Many people still think that this rule continues to apply, and they miss their chance to find a good job, settling on more modest options. However, people in their 50s and older have many employment advantages.
Instructions
Step 1
It may seem surprising, but one of the main reasons why people over 50 cannot find a job is psychological. They have already come to terms with the fact that high positions and careers are not for them and unknowingly make it clear to the employer at the interview. To prevent this from happening to you, do not think about your age when looking for a job. In the end, age is not the most decisive factor for a candidate, besides, being at the age of 50 or even older, you can be either a “retired in five minutes” or a very active person.
Step 2
Be aware of the benefits of your age when looking for a job. You have at least five of them: 1. An experience. What kind of lawyer would a reputable company hire, 25 or 50? Most likely the second. 2. Stability. Older employees change jobs less often. 3. Absence of personal factors influencing work (small children, etc.) 4. The presence of motivation to ensure a decent old age. 5. Balanced character, resistance to stress.
Step 3
Of course, there are still employers who do not see the above advantages or attach less importance to them than they should. To prevent them from rushing to send your resume to the trash, do not include your date of birth. This is not at all a detail that is definitely worth showing. It is also enough to indicate your places of work over the past ten years, without mentioning the very first companies and positions.
Step 4
The very process of job search for those who are "over fifty" does not differ from the process of job search for people of other ages: send your resume to the companies you are interested in, do not forget about recruitment agencies, ask your friends. Unless it is worth paying special attention to the latter method, since older people, as a rule, have a lot of professional connections, so finding a job in this way is both faster and easier.
Step 5
Remember that a good impression in the interview is made by the "person without problems": fit, fit, positive, friendly. This is very important for older candidates as well, as some young leaders may worry that an older candidate will be difficult to get along with if they are overly demanding, strict, and so on.
