Step 1
You can obtain citizenship of Malta if you are married to a citizen of Malta. In this case, apply for citizenship after 5 years of marriage. At the same time, a permanent presence in the republic is not necessary.
Step 2
Attach your passport, marriage certificate, birth certificate with the parents' names, ID, if any, three 3x4 photographs to your citizenship application. Spouse's documents: passport, birth certificate, father's birth certificate, parents' marriage certificate.
Step 3
Submit a joint written statement confirming that you have been married to each other for at least 5 years. If so, you will take an oath of allegiance to the republic and become a citizen of Malta. If you are a widow or widower of a Maltese citizen, you can also apply for citizenship, provided that you have been married for 5 years before the death of your spouse.
Step 4
Purchase a property or business in Malta. After 18 years of residence in the state, you can apply for citizenship with permanent residence status.
Step 5
If your parents are citizens of Malta, you can also obtain citizenship. To do this, provide a birth certificate indicating the names of the parents, a marriage certificate of the parents, a passport, a certificate with the date of acquisition of foreign citizenship. Send the required set of documents to the consular section of your place of residence or to the Department of Emigration and Citizenship of Malta.
