A photograph of a working day is one of the observation methods that allows you to identify the processes occurring during the working day, measure them and optimize them based on the data obtained. It is also a unique and effective time management tool. It is not difficult to compose it, a photo card of the working day can help with this.

Blank card "Photo of the working day"

Instructions

Step 1

Familiarize yourself with the workflow and workplace. Prepare a work day photo card (observation sheet). Indicate the costs of working time of the same name with indices (codes) - these are breaks, maintenance of the workplace, basic and frequently repeated operations, etc. Write down general information about the workplace: about the time of work, about the equipment used. It is also necessary to warn personnel about the diagnostics being carried out. If the personnel will do self-observation, then the basic operations should be formulated so that employees do not invent long names for them that make it difficult to process.

Step 2

From the very beginning of the shift, continuously observe and consistently record on the form each type of activity, the operations performed, the time spent in various zones, any breaks in work. Observations are recorded at the current time, i.e. at the moment of the beginning of the action, fill in the column "Name of work" (in other sheets it is called "Element of the cost of working time"), at the moment of the end of the action, indicate the current time. The start time of a new operation is not recorded, because it is assumed that it coincides with the end of the previous one. Downtime must be accompanied by comments in the "Note" column about the reasons for the downtime: poor work organization, unauthorized absences from work, employee distraction, production failures, etc.

Step 3

Analyze the results of observation. First of all, fill in the "Duration" column, calculating it as the difference between the start time and the end time of the action. Also fill in the "Job Code" column (in other forms there may be a "Cost Index"), indicating the indexes of the works of the same name developed in the preparatory stage. Sum up the costs of works of the same name and fill in the part under the observation table. Develop recommendations based on the goals of taking a photo of the work day. Recommendations can be aimed at eliminating losses of working time, adjusting working hours standards, etc.
