Instructions

Step 1

Graduate from the law faculty of one of the state-accredited universities. After that, you can immediately go to work in your specialty or get an academic degree first. However, in any case, in order to qualify for the status of a lawyer, you will need two years of experience in any organization - private or public. The calculation of the length of service begins from the moment of graduation from the university. So if you worked in your specialty as a student, this will not be taken into account.

Step 2

If you already have the necessary experience, contact the bar association of your constituent entity of the Federation and find out the procedure for passing the exam for obtaining the status of a lawyer. Submit the following documents to the qualification commission: - a certified copy of a passport; - a certified copy of a work record book; - a certified copy of a diploma (or certificate of conferring an academic degree); - an application; - a questionnaire containing biographical information.

Step 3

Get a list of questions for the qualifying exam. It usually consists of 2 parts: testing and interview or testing and written exam. Moreover, only those who successfully passed the first are allowed to the second part of the qualification tests. In order to pass them, you will have to prepare in all areas of law, navigate the legislation on advocacy and the legal profession, and also study the Code of Professional Ethics. The exam is held no later than 3 months from the date of application by the applicant.

Step 4

If you have successfully passed the exam, the qualification commission will decide on granting you the status of a lawyer. If not, then you can try to get this status again only after a year.

Step 5

Get your certificate and apply to any college located in your constituent entity of the Federation with an application for membership. However, do not forget that in order to become a member of the State Bar Association, you do not have to pay an entrance fee, but you will have to subsequently provide free consulting services to the public. Membership in a nonprofit bar association presupposes that you will earn money in private practice and pay fairly high monthly fees.
