Step 1
It is a mistake to believe that it is difficult only for schoolchildren to decide on a profession. Sometimes people work for years in a particular profession, and then lose interest in it, but cannot immediately decide on another. Probably the first and main rule in these cases will be that there is no rush here. The choice of a profession depends on many factors, in addition, it determines a person's life at least for several years ahead, and more often for several decades.
Step 2
High school students, and often young specialists, often experience the pressure of stereotypes about the prestige of a particular profession. As a result, on the recommendations of their parents or acquaintances, they enter the university for a specialty that is not interesting to them, although it is prestigious, and then they start working on it, but do not feel any positive feelings for this work. In order not to be led by stereotypes, do not forget about your interests and desires. You can determine which area you are most interested in by taking a career guidance test or getting advice.
Step 3
The vocational guidance test is designed to identify the main advantages of the person who passes it, his personality traits, strengths and weaknesses. According to the results of such a test, a person is offered several areas, work in which he is most suitable. For example, if the test reveals in a person scrupulousness, perseverance, attentiveness and structural thinking, then accounting, finance will be a suitable direction. There are a huge number of different tests for vocational guidance - from simple ones containing 20-30 questions to multi-stage (200, 300 or more questions of completely different topics).
Step 4
Professional (career) counseling helps to determine already with the profession itself, and not with the field of activity. A professional consultant can tell the client about a particular profession, its strengths and weaknesses, and the prospects for its development. It will be correct to visit a professional consultant after passing the vocational guidance test: knowing the test results, it will be easier for the consultant to understand his client, he will not only "acquaint" him with suitable professions, but also tell him what difficulties a particular client may encounter in case of choosing a specific profession.

If your school does not offer career guidance tests, or if you are no longer a student, you can contact one of the city's recruitment centers. As a rule, recruitment centers conduct such testing, and some also have professional consultants. You can also contact the Center for Testing and Development "Humanitarian Technologies" at Moscow State University - he just deals with similar issues.
