The first steps in the profession of a psychologist are the most difficult. On the one hand, the young specialist is energetic, eager to use the acquired knowledge, help people and change the world for the better. On the other hand, he lacks practical experience. To take a worthy place in the professional field, he must create optimal conditions for a career start.
Necessary
- - diploma of higher professional education;
- - summary;
- - certificate of registration of an individual entrepreneur.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose an area of psychological practice in which you would like to develop. This can be child psychology, family counseling, work in correctional medical and educational institutions, social rehabilitation centers, etc. Large enterprises and organizations also often have a psychologist on staff who deals with the selection and motivation of personnel. Recently, private psychological centers have been actively developing, attracting university graduates for individual and group classes.
Step 2
Create a resume. In it, indicate the higher educational institution that you graduated from, completed advanced training courses, major professional trainings and seminars. List our diplomas, certificates and other documents confirming the availability of special training in a particular area of psychology. Do not forget to mention practical experience, for example, if you combined study at the institute and work as an assistant psychologist. Write also about those important consultations that you volunteer without signing an employment contract.
Step 3
Send your resume to recruiting agencies, personnel services of enterprises and organizations where there is a position of a psychologist. Contact potential employers directly: call schools, kindergartens, psychological centers, make an appointment, leave your contacts so that when a vacancy appears, they can contact you. Advertise your job search in the free classifieds newspaper in your region. Leave a message on your local internet forum. Tell your friends and acquaintances that you are interested in employment. The more people know about it, the better your chances of finding your dream job.
Step 4
Provide individual psychological counseling. This can be done in parallel with the search for the main job. You may even give up the idea of working in an institution in the future and focus entirely on private practice. At first, it is not necessary to rent an office, furnish it with expensive furniture and hire a secretary. You can advise your clients on their territory, at home, in any cozy and inviting environment. People, of course, will not remember the color of the wallpaper in the room, but how effectively you helped them solve the problem. However, when starting a private counseling, be sure to register as a sole proprietor. This is necessary so that you do not have problems with paying taxes.
Step 5
Be active and purposeful. Engage in continuous self-education, attend specialized courses and trainings in psychological areas. The more current trends and theories you know, the more options for cooperation you will be able to offer your clients and employers, and the higher your "value" in the labor market will become.
